Issues and Concerns
NC Motorcycle Dealers Association
Begins work on and OHV Registration Bill. This is a hot issues this term.
Work continues to ensure the recreationists get something for their money.
This bill would require all off-road motorcycles and ATV's to be titled and
registered with the state of NC. OHV Enthusiasts are asking that the funds
collected be put in a non reverting trust fund that is to be used to provide
new riding areas as well as educational opportunities. This bill is important
in many ways. It would stop people from going to other states to purchase
OHV's to avoid paying sales tax and then bringing them to NC. It would
provide funding to ensure the successful compliance with the recently
passed ATV Safety Legislation which restricts ATV use by children to 8
years old, requires wearing a helmet, goggles, and taking the ASI safety
training.(see law below). It will make it more difficult for stolen vehicles to be
sold in NC.
